Sign on the library door…

For him that stealeth a book from this Library, let it change into a serpent in his hand and rend him. Let him be struck with palsy and all his members blasted. Let him languish in pain crying aloud for Mercy and let there be no surcease to his agony till he sink in Dissolution. Let Bookworms gnaw his Entrails, in token of the Worm that dieth not, and when at last he goeth to his final Punishment, let the flames of Hell consume him for ever and aye.
16th-century Spanish curse
Dude, I know some librarians that would love that…
Maybe if you pass it on to them it’ll start an epidemic all over the world, with all librarians using similar arcane curses. That would be AWESOME.
I’m not a librarian, just a low ranking, lower paid library asssitant. What I want to know is: why do people tealeaf our books when they can borrow them for nothing???
Good question. Libraries are hallowed temples dedicated to the wonder of books, and ought to be respected as such. That said, I haven’t borrowed a fiction book from a library in ages, only textbooks at Uni. If I really enjoy a book, I just hate the idea of having to give it back when I’m done.
