Phew, I’m ‘good’…

Cambridge has a particularly sadistic way of announcing exam results, where the class lists are posted for all to see outside the Senate House. They don’t tell us when exactly this will happen, so entire days can be spent repeatedly checking the boards, and my results were posted on Wednesday morning. I’m hugely relieved to say I got a 2i, equating to ‘good’. As I said in previous posts, I thought I was probably hovering around the 2i/2ii boundary, and this was indeed the case. It was close. This makes me hugely pleased that in the the veritable car crash of my final paper, I resisted the temptation to give up with half an hour left. In those final thirty minutes I worked out a long question that had previously stumped me, and if it hadn’t been for that I could well have been ‘poor’.
While not spectacular, this result is probably more than I deserved, given my immense laziness on everything but the research project. It leaves options open, and with some relevant experience I ought to be able to get a PhD place somewhere. With undergraduate life finally behind me, I can throw myself into the hectic summer ahead. Working at the British Antarctic Survey, house-hunting, visiting Edinburgh during the festival and being Company Manager for a show in Cornwall. It’ll be busy but fun.
PS I owe you one post about Cate Blanchett.
Congrats on the 2i!
I look forward to the Cate Blanchett post.
Cheers Oz. I’ll have to write that Cate Blanchett post some time. The story’s just too good to miss…
I just realized that you have posted TWO entries on your blog since my last entry on my blog. Should I be afraid?
Kerrie, yes you should. Hop to it, you slacker! I mean, if you can’t keep up with Fyse, you should really shut your blog down.
And what I came here to write–Fyse, where’s your victory post about England winning its group and not having to play Germany in the next round? (Although your little team STILL hasn’t beaten Sweden!)
So you’re all wrapped up, eh? Congrats! Where’s the British Antarctic Survey? Isn’t that in New Zealand, or am I making that up? I visited some kind of Antarctic staging area thing while I was there, and I thought that’s what it was (I could be totally wrong).
At least your team doesn’t have to count on Italy beating Czech. Republic.
Still waiting on that Cate Blanchett post.
Whimsy - Yeah, we’ve neither of us been posting much of late. I’ve just been so busy! Must do better, starting with that Cate Blanchett post. Soon.
Oz - Yes, our curse against Sweden continues. Still, we topped the group. Remind me, where did the USA finish?
Nicholas - The headquarters of the BAS are in Cambridge, but they probably have offices all over. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there was one in New Zealand. Unfortunately I’m going to be sitting programming a computer all summer, rather than actually ‘going south’. Maybe one day…
Oh, dear Fyse, you can’t get me going by pointing out that the US finished last. As an American, it is my duty not to care much about soccer. It’s only fun to point out England’s troubles to you because you do care!
Go Sweden!
