Father and Son…

Fyse January 25th, 2008

This is a shot taken from the archives, in fact from amongst the first
photos I took with my D80. With no time to take something new I was
looking for a shot I could enter under the theme ‘People’, and eventually
settled on this. As you can see, it’s pretty heavily edited, and I started
out aiming for a cross-processed look but didn’t quite end up there. With
the submission deadline approaching and insufficient photoshop skills, I
sent it of as is. In the cold light of day I think I whatever the road I was
going down, I may have gone too far. Thoughts?

A Walk in the Snow…

Fyse January 14th, 2008

Probably the penultimate Budapest photo, after which I’ll have to get out
and take some new shots if I’m to maintain this year’s break-neck rate of
posting. This shot was taken on Margaret Island, which lies in the middle of
the Danube between Buda and Pest. Apparently during the summer the gardens
are the Hungarian equivalent of Hyde Park, but during winter it was largely
empty, a hint of post-communist-wasteland to the deserted paths and
vandalised buildings. Only an occasional well-wrapped couple strolling
through the snow, and perhaps a disconcerting foreigner peeking from between
the trees…

Food at the market…

Fyse January 11th, 2008

Another Budapest photo, this time from a Christmas market near St Peter’s
Basilica. Those sausages were GOOD. The market also provided ample
opportunity to purchase all the necessary festive presents, which consisted
mostly of various Hungarian alcoholic beverages…

Lighting a Cigar…

As I mentioned before, I’m a member of the university photography society,
and this is the first time I’ve been part of such an organisation. So far
it’s been great and a real boost to my photography, primarily in enthusiasm.
I’ve been entering each round of the ongoing competition (getting a couple
of runner-up placings, including for the previous photo I posted), and this
shot was taken on a society trip to Budapest just before Christmas. I may
post a few more from the trip in the next week or so.

In other news, I’m back in Bristol for another term and acutely aware that I
should write some proper blog posts this year. Consider it one of my
resolutions, but I’ve never been one to stick to them…
